Coco + Hazel Bon Air

Coco + Hazel is a specialty milkshake and espresso shop located in Richmond, Virginia. It opened in 2019 to almost immediate success. Utilizing the incredibly “Instagrammable” quality of the specialty shakes, people flocked to get their hands on one of these milkshakes, adorned with a buttercream-lined rim and a secondary sweet treat on the top of the glass, it remains a favorite for kids, adults and influencers alike. In 2022, the company opened a second location in the Bon Air area when they outgrew their initial location.

Expanding on my role with Coco + Hazel, I handled the spatial design of their second location. Having worked in the shop myself, I knew what was necessary and what I thought would function the best on top of making a beautiful space. We wanted to elevate the space to match and enhance the Instagramable moment that comes with the specialty shakes. Some of these elements included an arched walkway with flower beds as soon as you walk in, custom-designed booths and a neon that reads “THERE’S ALWAYS ROOM FOR DESSERT”.
